Hey there friends– When our kids were here a couple weeks ago, we whiled away a wintery afternoon at Crystal Cove. Wandered down the beach a ways and then snagged a corner window table at the Beach Comber Cafe, tucked into a cozy 1930’s cottage on the beach.
We read our way through the little state park information shack– with the history of Crystal Cove– and watched the sea gulls stand guard along the shore.
Our little lunch was delish– from the Asian calamari to the s’mores sundae and the hot tea in a chubby little pot.
As we hiked back towards the car, the sun was nearly set over the Pacific.
Thanks Ani & Brian– Larry and I can never have too many walking/eating/talking days out with you two!
such beautiful pictures! with your new camera? My husband and I had our first date at Crystal cove… then we dated for a good two years either meeting there or at corona del mar (a little north of there) every week. Then, he proposed to me at at a spot where the cottages end…. special place for us!
Hi Elaine!! So fun to hear your story– it is so tranquil and beautiful… And yep, was using the new camera– still need more practice@ Our niece is being married at Crystal Cove in August, so we’ll have some “wedding history” there too! Great to see you last night. Love our group.
Ah, California Dreamin’.
Hey Cate– it is a very California kind of place. There’s a raft of cottages built in the 30’s with 75 year leases from the state for the land. And now they’ve been taken back and are being refurbished into a state park. Pretty cool place– quiet in the winter.
That would be a fun place to visit.
We were there on Dec 30th with Dennis’ sister and bro in law…such a beautiful spot!
That’s about when we were there Debi– nice a uncrowded in the winter– got a table easily for lunch without a reservation. We’re having a family wedding there in August!
Andrea’s Wedding spot….looks like I had better bring my coat.
Hey Mom!! I have a feeling it will be a whole lot sunnier in August!!
Beautiful photos, Rhonda! It makes me long to sit by the shore . . .
Hi Daisy– how close are you to the beach there? We are just 30minutes inland, but you’d be surprised how seldom we drive down– but every time we do, I think we should do it more often.
